Osteopathy is not yet regulated in Belgium.
In 1999 the Colla Law ( Marcel Colla was at that time the Minister of Health) proposed official registration for osteopaths, together with homeopaths, chiropractors and acupuncturists.
Since then (some 15 years ago), various governments, ministers and experts have grappled with this issue.
Under pressure from a lawsuit against the Belgian government, the last Minister of Health worked hard to implement formal registration. Unfortunately, just before new national elections in April
2014, one of the six political parties that formed the Belgian government decided to vote against the proposed legislation. So yet again there is no formal recognition and regulation of osteopathy in
Belgium.
For 2015 the GNRPO will be renegotiating with the new Minister of Health to push for recognition and regulation of osteoapthy in Belgium.
