Currently osteopathy is not a recognised profession in Austria.
Instead only physicians have the legal right to practise. While physiotherapists are permitted
to work as an osteopath, because they can treat manually, they require a doctor's referral before they can treat.
A percentage of the costs of osteopathic treatment is reimbursed by private health insurance policies, often covering up to 80% of the costs. The public insurance SVA pays 12 Euros per treatment.
